Widely celebrated poet Munawwar Rana, a very famous and beloved Indian poet whose distinctive voice and writing style resonated with the masses, is no longer With us. Munawwar Rana passed away on Sunday at the age of 71 after fighting a long and difficult battle with throat cancer. He was admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi PostGraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow.

We lost him in the hospital late on Sunday night and laid him to rest on Monday morning, shared her daughter Sumaiya Rana to the news agency PTI. His son Tabrez Rana said “He was hospitalised for 14 to 15 days due to illness. He was first admitted to Medanta in Lucknow and then to SGPGI where he breathed his last around 11 pm today.”

Beyond “Maa” Rana’s collection extended to several more acclaimed collections, including “Muhajirnama,” “Ghar Akela Ho Gaya,” and “Peepal Chhaon. His works have also been translated and published in Hindi, Urdu, Gurumukhi, and Bengali.
